Sonic Liquid Abstraction is the result of an on-going collaboration between artist Elena Cecchinato and composer Timothy Ellis.
This project is an experiment with painting, water and sound waves, vibrations, feelings, atmospheres, recipes and papers. Cecchinato and Ellis have been painting on water placed above a speaker connected to an analog synthesizer. When low frequencies are played, the sound waves make the water and paints move, creating some phenomenally disruptive yet harmonic patterns. Different frequencies generate different patterns, impossible to forge or even invent by hand. Each piece is a unique and immanent encounter across different realms of creation - when the visible water and paint waves of the drawing collide with the invisible and distinctive sound waves emanating through the speaker- and is recorded on various artists' paper previously bathed in an aluminum solution.
The diameter of each painted round recording is 33 cm
